The European aircraft manufacturer Airbus is eager to launch a new commercial aircraft by early 2006 at the latest. Its Chief Executive Office, Noel Forgeard, has spoken about a commercial plan in the countdown to a possible launch by late 2004 or early 2005. The group is presently consulting American airlines about the type of project involved. A source in the air industry says the plane is a spin-off of the current Airbus A330 and will position itself, under the code name A350, to compete with the giant American Boeing 7E7. The plan is to have the new aircraft operating by 2008, the year when the Boeing 7E7 is scheduled to start commercial flights. Airbus has not confirmed this option.

The alliance between Spain's Iberia Airlines and British Airways, approved at the end of last year by the European Commission, will go into effect in November.
Iberia Managing Director Angel Mullor said Thursday that the alliance entailed a process of integration of the airlines' sales networks in Europe and Latin America.
It also includes melding of the work force and market distribution, and establishing joint accounts, "steps which are part of the initial agreement and for which we have requested authorization from Brussels."
"It's a gradual process of integration," Mullor told reporters during the unveiling of Iberia's new flights to Central America. "After that, it's possible that a percentage of shares change hands," but not "immediately."
"The least important issue for us is whether the percentage of shares owned by either company is higher or lower," Mullor said, adding that "we're not going to start building the house from the roof down."
According to the executive, Iberia does not need to shed assets, since its accounts "are completely in shape ... and we're no longer in the same situation as British ... but we'll have to continue implementing cost-cutting measures" as a result of "competition from low-cost airlines."

Chairman Rod Eddington has indicated that British Airways is not interested in its troubled Italian counterpart Alitalia, but is not ruling out a bid for the Spanish airline Iberia. BA currently controls almost 10% of Iberia. "We have always clearly states that we regard Iberia as a key element in our European projects", Rod Eddington told a press conference on September 8, called in the aftermath of the announcement by the British carrier that it would be selling its interest in the Australian airline Qantas Airways. A British Airways/Iberia merger would place the two companies on virtually an equal footing with the Air France/KLM alliance in terms of turnover.

No otad je Boeing napustila poslovna sreæa.
